We went to St Louis last weekend and found a place to live!! Let's just say it is a little ghetto fabulous...but with a little TLC and all our cool stuff... it should suffice. :) We left first thing on Friday when I got off work. We stopped at Fuddruckers for dinner and it was delicious. We made it to St Louis safely and got checked in. Checking in was a task as Kyle had to act as Charles Sexton. All went well until asked for his id...however, the front desk clerk went along with..."ah..I left it in the car" as he pulled his wallet back out to get the Charles Sexton credit card back out. None the less, we got the key to the room and spent little time lingering around the lobby area. Saturday morning we got up and went to four different places. The first was very nice, but a little pricey. The second was scuzzy and expensive. The third was a real "charmer" (and were we will end up living). The last was an Extended Stay hotel...and that..well felt like a hotel.
We will be living at a complex called Woodhollow in Maryland Heights, MO. We are less than a mile from where Kyle will work and there is a dry cleaners conveniently in between our apartment and his work. One mile the other way there is a plethora of fast food restaurants and a grocery store. So, although it is not the most attractive apartment complex we've ever seen, seems like the location will be ideal. We went to see a model apartment like the one we will be living in. After we filled out the paperwork, we went over to see our actual apartment building... let's just say we liked the model building much better. Apartments in MO are a little different from what we are used to here. In Oklahoma, the doors to enter the apts are outside. In MO, the doors to enter the apts are inside a building. As we enter our new building, we are hit with a stench that is similar to cat vomit and baby's diarrhea. There is a large Indian (from India) population in our complex and evidently they use quite a bit of curry in their food... We see our door and decide we have had enough and head back to the car... As soon as we get into the car Kyle informs me we are going to need to invest in some candles. Hopefully, we can OUST the smell, the candles help, or we get used to it.
We enjoyed IMO'S Pizza for lunch. It's a chain pizza place.. but a chain only in St Louis. They use provel cheese instead of mozzarella. The crust is also thin. We really enjoyed it. We went back to the hotel to rest and then decided to go somewhere fun of the evening. A lady I work with is from St. Louis and suggested a place called "The Loop." We headed down and went to Fritz' Brewery. They made Root Beer. The Root Beer was awesome... the food...not so great! After dinner, we walked around and then decided it was time for some ice cream. We headed to Ted Drewes for frozen custard. Thank goodness for Garmy...otherwise we may not have found it. The place was similar to Shakey's. It was AMAZING. We got the All Shook Up... it had vanilla custard, bananas, and peanut butter cups. We headed back to the hotel and rounded off the day with football.
We are really excited about moving up to St Louis. Other than both of us being wimps in cold weather, we are looking forward to the experience!!
